DRIFTWOOD: THE STORY, THE MEANING, AND WHY IT MATTERS

Hey there,

Where in your life are you craving transformation — or resilience?

Pour your favourite beverage, come sit next to me by the bonfire, and I’ll share what Driftwood means to me and why it felt like the perfect name for what I do and what you’re looking for.

Before Driftwood, I spent two decades building an international corporate career, first in luxury hospitality and then, financial services, coming through the ranks in operations and later specialising in culture, transformation, business excellence, customer experience, brand standards, culture and facilitation.

I loved it, all of it, and I wanted more.

I craved freedom and desired to follow my purpose, to feel alive, to create something real and meaningful, uniquely and authentically mine–Driftwood, proudly launched in  January 2021 after four years of dreaming into it and breathing on the first ever embers till it felt like a fire.

How did I land on “Driftwood” as a name?

Well… Back in 2020, I came across one of Davy’s pictures on IG by total chance, through an old re-post by Dominc Purcell (yes, the “Prison Break” actor and yes, it couldn’t get any more random!), and that’s when, just like magic, something sparked inside of me and I literally heard the name “Driftwood” in my head and felt it like fire in my guts — and it all came together for me and made total sense that this would be my business name.

When you hear where it came from, you’ll know how I understand you, because I’m driftwood too.

To me, Driftwood…

... inspires transformation.

It begins as a sapling, grows into a tree, and becomes driftwood — thanks to a disrupting event. After being tossed in the water and going through the mud, it gets a second chance at life. It nourishes, shelters, and even inspires the creation of tools and art forms.

... speaks of our past.

The Vikings believed humans were formed from two pieces of driftwood, and they would also cast wood into the sea, anticipating landfall to know where to build their mead halls. Inuit tribes used driftwood to craft their traditional kayaks, bows, and arrows, and of course, to start fires. It carries knowledge, information, and ancient wisdom. Inside that wisdom is a story, and probably secrets.

... reminds us what it feels like to live FULL•ON.

It’s about feeling everything and being present with the intensity and full range of emotions, just as driftwood does. Driftwood lets go and lives full-on, embracing play, fun, curiosity, and always noticing that inner fire — always exploring, and always up for adventure and shenanigans.

... expresses authenticity.

It doesn’t hide; it’s simply “as is.” Unapologetic about the journey it’s travelled and bears the battle scars of floating through hell and back. It’s worn out and shaped by life, the elements, and everything it’s been through.

... stands for freedom.

It exists in the wild and is suited for the outdoors; it needs open space, fresh air, and wilderness to burn freely. When someone doesn’t know how to handle its true nature — confining it indoors to a wood stove or caging it in — it can become dangerous.

... represents resilience.

It’s shaped by currents, storms, and through time. It changes, hardens, bears scars, and yet, it finds a way to float, get to shore, be found and start over again… and again… and again.

Some can’t see past a piece of driftwood’s twisted and tormented exterior.

Others see a gift, an opportunity.

I sure do.

I see pure potential and possibility.

Do you know what needs to change in your life? To spot where transformation is most needed, finish this sentence:

“If ______________________ stayed the same for the next 12 months, …

  • …I’ll loose ______________________”

  • …I’m at risk of ______________________”

  •  …the price I’ll pay is ______________________”

What you write down is where we can start from.

Be alive.
Be real.
Be free.
…and off I go!
Ciao,
Sara
